Extract from Circular 24|2020

The matric examination is in full swing and with the grade 8 to 11 exam lurking, I would like to encourage every learner to fight for his or her dreams and perform to their fullest potential. Although we had our fair share of challenges and had to face many unknown scenarios relating to the pandemic, I believe life is still full of beauty. Stand still … and notice it! It was wonderful to witness the enjoyment and dedication of all the learners participating in the various inter-house sport competitions. The netball, softball, cricket and boys’ hockey have already had their finals, with the girls’ hockey concluding on Tuesday. A word of thanks to every parent who allowed their grade 10 child to experience the Odyssey and a special salute to Mr Malcolm Dunkeld, his team and every group leader who made Odyssey 6 possible. Education definitely does not only take place in the classroom! I would also like to thank the parents who attended the Coffee-with-Carel session in our wonderful new College Hub this morning. A reminder that due to night school tonight, there will be no school tomorrow (Friday, 30 October). Take note that the learners will also have a study day next Friday as a number of them already write on the Saturday. We have experienced a number of serious cyber-attacks over the last two months and as a result had to adjust the IT budget accordingly to secure the electronic backbone of our academics. Our Wi-Fi, IT and Cyber Security levy that has been unchanged at R500 for the last six years, will unfortunately have to be increased. However, I am glad to report that due to the goodwill of our directors, normal school fees for 2021 will only increase by a maximum of 4.4%. (See circular for details.)
