Striving for excellence

Providing each learner with the skills necessary in a fast-paced, changing world.

Excellentia

Midstream College is a parallel medium (with instruction in either Afrikaans or English) private school with a Christian ethos situated in the south of Centurion. The high school opened its doors in 2007, and our first grade 12s wrote the IEB final exam in 2009.

We are known for high academic standards, top quality teachers, and firm discipline. Our balanced learners and alumni thrive nationally and internationally in the academic, sport, cultural and social spheres. The spacious school grounds house some of the most modern facilities in the country, including a huge auditorium, indoor swimming pool and hockey astro turf.

The mediocre teacher tells.
The good teacher explains.
The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.
–  William Arthur Ward

At Midstream College, our teachers are an inspiration to our learners. Our annual Belgian exchange programme and educational tours abroad are extremely popular. Our adventure club summits Mont-aux-Sources, goes kloofing in the Magaliesberg, river rafting on the Orange and diving at Sodwana Bay. The grade 10 Odyssey is a nine-day challenge not to be missed.

Quo Vadis? Semigrate to Midstream College and help shape our motto, Excellentia. Carpe Diem – make the most of the many opportunities Midstream offers.

OUR VALUES

from the headmaster's office

The fickleness of the weather over the last few months has everyone guessing – from unprecedented heatwaves in March to flooding in April. The first signs of winter in the air are a reminder of the winter sport and cultural practices that dominate the second term on the extra-mural front. Midstream College’s learners toured far and wide across the country for their respective sport tours. I believe they are all well prepared for the tough leagues ahead. Always remember the following wise words from the legendary Vince Lombardi:

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.

Medals by the dozens was the motto of our swimmers, athletes, tennis and squash players during the past month. They performed well from regional events, all the way to the senior national championships. Congratulations to all of you, and a special salute to the parents who supported them through thick and thin. (More details about these achievements will follow later in this newsletter.)

After a wonderful two weeks in South Africa, our eighth Belgian exchange group flew back last Thursday. They were hosted by 30 of our learners where they experienced typical South African hospitality. Our learners cannot wait for their reciprocal visit to Belgium in September. A huge thank you to all the parents, learners and teachers who facilitated this exchange.

Learner absenteeism presents a number of challenges at school. Parents are requested to ensure their children miss as few school days as possible. Learners’ marks are being finalised and their first term reports will be available on the Parent Portal on Monday, 22 April. Please note that our first parents’ evening takes place a week later on Monday, 29 April from 16:00 to 19:00. (This is just before our long weekend.) Your child can make the appointments with the teachers you would like to see.

Enjoy this busy term and the accompanying changing seasons.
